It's Been a Busy Year!

My 26 busy-bees this year have been flourishing with their many different assignments and activities, along with preparing themselves for their Sacraments. I can't even believe we are weeks away from Reconciliation. In math, we've been working away at our subtraction facts, along with double digit addition with carrying, writing numbers in expanded notation, observing temperature, and solving more complicated word problems. In Social Studies, we've finished up our Hero Unit which included a report on big and everyday heroes, along with special guest speakers who came in to talk about how we all can be heroes to one another. We are now in the process of sending our Flat Travelers to our families and friends across the United States and we are looking forward to learning about their adventures. In Science,we have completed our rocks and minerals unit and are now beginning the much-anticipated Fossils and Dinosaurs unit. We are looking forward to constructing our dinosaur in the classroom {correction: our "Flying Reptile" ;0) }

Every day we are continuing to develop as Language Scholars. Daily 5 has made a huge difference in our reading abilities. Some students have jumped from the 50th to the 90th percentiles in their fluency! WOW! We are also becoming more vivid writers and independent learners.

We've had many Mystery Readers come in and surprise us throughout these past weeks. We love listening to different people read a variety of stories to us.

Six brave, eager 2nd graders competed in the Spelling Bee. I am so  proud of all of them! Congratulations to Robby, Adam, Bella, Charlie, Nicole and Cassie!

Here's a look at what's been happening in 2nd grade these past weeks:
